EDUCATION AMBASSADOR VISITS PRESTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust in partnership with the Phoenix School of Languages in Yeovil, finished their 6 week Polish language programme at Preston Primary School this week with a visit from the Trust’s Education Ambassador, Artur Krysiak.

The initiative, which aims to support community cohesion with local Polish communities was made possible after the Trust secured almost £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund. The programme is themed around a football match and offers a 90-minute language programme split in to two halves.

During the sessions, pupils will develop their skills using Yeovil Town themed work books, interactive activities and videos, before moving on to the football pitch to use the words and phrases they have learnt within the classroom.

Sara Bradley, manager of the Trust, said  “Artur’ s visit topped off a fantastic six week programme at Preston Primary School and it was great to see him talking to the children in Polish and the children responding in his native language.

The children have been thoroughly engaged throughout the programme and Artur and I were both really impressed with how quickly the children have picked up the language. It really was incredible to see.

“Artur was great with the children as always and not only did he actively take part in lesson, he answered questions, signed autographs and took part in the coaching session afterwards.

“As with all the programmes we provide, we always ask for feedback so when you are getting comments like “Thank you for an amazing experience” “If I had another chance to do this again, I would jump at the chance” and then all of the children saying that they were sad that it was over, you know that you have had an impact.”

Mrs Sherry, a year 6 teacher at the school added “ I would like to say a huge thank you to Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust as not only have the children thoroughly enjoyed all of the language sessions, I have added another language to my repertoire!

“The interaction with the children was fantastic and every session was filled with enjoyment, enthusiasm and excitement.
